BOE Bargaining Update: May 22, 2025

The AFSCME Maryland Bargaining Team (made up of members from AFSCME Local 44 who work for Baltimore City Public Schools) met with school administrators on Monday, May 12 at the union office in Baltimore and again on Thursday, May 22 at the Baltimore City Public Schools headquarters.
At both sessions, the AFSCME team provided the BCPS team with a number of proposals to improve health and safety, expand workplace rights for union members, improve wages and compensation, and reduce outsourcing of our work. We made a limited number of tentative agreement with the BCPS team regarding union communication and access in the workplace.
However, we remain far apart regarding issues of training, professional development, and contracting out of our jobs. We raised some additional issues around discipline and the reassignment or staff to other work locations and facilities, but these were left unresolved. The BCPS team had originally said they would present a wage proposal during one of our sessions, but they failed to do so.
Our next bargaining session will be at the AFSCME Maryland offices on Thursday, June 5.
