The AFSCME Maryland Bargaining Team (made up of members from AFSCME Local 44 who work for Baltimore City Public Schools) met with school administrators on Thursday, June 5th  to continue contract negotiations. The session took place at the AFSCME Maryland office in Baltimore.

During this bargaining session, the AFSCME team and the BCPS team reached a tentative agreement on new employee orientations, union access to worksites, and sick days.

However, we remain far apart regarding issues of health and safety, wages, and the contracting out of our jobs.

During this session, the BCPS team brought a counter of our previous wage. The AFSCME team was deeply offended by how low the BCPS wage offer was. For perspective, the BCPS wage counter is lower than any other offer other Baltimore city employees have received.

This is unacceptable, and our members deserve more. The AFSCME team countered the offer with a fair wage increase that respects the work of our members and keeps up with the rising cost of living. BCPS will respond to our wage offer during the next bargaining session.

As the school year winds down, our union will continue to visit schools across the city to learn more about the issues we need to address at the bargaining table.

Our next bargaining session will be at the AFSCME Maryland office on Monday, June 30th.
